Alabama Women’s Golf Opens Fall Schedule at Mason Rudolph Championship on Friday

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's golf team begins its 2016-17 season this weekend at the Mason Rudolph Championship, Sept. 16-18 at the par-72, 6,321-yard Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn. The Crimson Tide is coming off a 2015-16 season in which they won their third Southeastern Conference championship and finished 12th at the NCAA Championships.
Competing against the Tide this weekend will be Auburn, Baylor, Chattanooga, Houston, Michigan State, Middle Tennessee, Northwestern, SMU, Troy, Tulane, UCF, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Yale.
Alabama opened the 2015-16 season with a victory at the Mason Rudolph, shooting 16-under par (282-280-286/848) to defeat runner-up Northwestern by one shot. Lakareber Abe captured individual medalist honors, shooting a 12-under par 204 (67-68-69) for a one-shot victory.

The Tide lineup will include junior Lakareber Abe (73.72 average in 2015-16), freshman Kristen Gillman, sophomore Cheyenne Knight (72.28), senior Mia Landegren (77.00) and sophomore transfer Lauren Stephenson (73.36 at Clemson).
Alabama No. 6 in Golfweek Preseason Top 30
Alabama begins the season as the No. 6 team in the country in Golfweek's Preseason Top 30 released Sept. 2. The Tide is one of seven SEC schools to appear in the preseason ranking. Joining Alabama in the Top 30 are Georgia (3), Florida (7), Arkansas (10), South Carolina (15), Texas A&M (20) and Tennessee (23).
Three Tide Golfers Among Preseason Individual Top 30
Alabama placed three golfers in Golfweek's preseason Top 30 announced Sept. 3. Cheyenne Knight (8), Kristen Gillman (12) and Lakareber Abe (23) are listed among the nation's top golfers entering the 2016-17 season.
