
Alabama Cross Country Teams Reach Midpoint of Regular Season

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – After top-two finishes in each of their first two meets, the Alabama men's and women's cross country teams will take a two-week break from competition to prepare for their final two regular season meets of the season – the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational on Sept. 30 and Alabama's own Crimson Classic, set for Oct. 14 at Harry Pritchett Running Park in Tuscaloosa.
The Crimson Tide men and women opened the season with second- and first-place finishes, respectively, at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic on Sept. 3 and a pair of second-place finishes at the Chattanooga Powerade Invitational on Sept. 9.
Last Week
The Alabama men's and women's cross country teams recorded second place finishes at the Powerade Invitational on Sept. 9. In the men's 5k race, senior Antibahs Kosgei was again the Tide's top runner, finishing fourth in a time of 14:57.13. In the women's two-mile race, junior Emily Edwards led the Tide across the finish line, completing the course in 11:28.54 to finish sixth.

The Crimson Tide men's team is No. 4 and the women's team is No. 5 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) South Region rankings released Sept. 13.
Kosgei Tops SEC Men's 5K and Four-Mile Lists
Alabama senior Antibahs Kosgei has the top 5K time of any SEC men's runner through two weekends of competition. Kosgei finished fourth at the Chattanooga Powerade Invitational in a time of 14:57.13. Kosgei also holds the top 4-mile time in the conference this season with his 19:11.13 performance at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic on Sept. 3.
Waggoner No. 2 on SEC Women's 5K List
Alabama senior Hannah Waggoner holds the second-fastest women's 5K time in the SEC after two weeks of competition. Waggoner finished second, and was the top collegiate finisher, at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic in a personal-best time of 17:17.72.
Kosgei Earns SEC Men's Runner of the Week Honors
Alabama senior Antibahs Kosgei was named the Southeastern Conference Men's Runner of the Week for his performance at the season-opening Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic on Sept. 3. The 2015 SEC and South Region Runner of the Year, Kosgei raced to the men's 4-mile title, crossing the finish line in 19:11.13. Kosgei's victory helped Alabama to a second-place finish. This is the second year in a row that Kosgei has earned Runner of the Week honors for his performance in the Twilight Classic. He won the 2015 meet in a time of 19:49.75.
Up Next
The Tide will be off the next two weekends before traveling to South Bend, Ind. to participate in the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational on Sept. 30. The meet will feature a number of top teams from around the country competing in a five mile men's race and a 5k women's race.
