Alabama’s Tony Brown Earns All-America Honors in the 110-Meter Hurdles at NCAA Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – Alabama's Tony Brown finished sixth Friday in the 110-meter hurdles to earn All-America honors on the final day of men's competition at the 2016 NCAA Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
"For a guy who has seen pretty limited action on the track the last two years, Tony Brown really stepped up and showed what a competitor he is," said head coach Dan Waters. "He's an impressive talent and he did a great job this season making his way into the final here and earning All-America honors. Overall, it was a disappointing day and a tough one for our men but our program has come far in five years and we had people competing across all the disciplines in this meet. It's been a pretty special year for us in a lot of ways, just a tough final day for our men's team today."
Brown's time of 13.81 seconds equaled his fourth-best effort in the event this season as he joins Ron Bramlett (2000-01-02) and Keith Talley (1985-86) as the only All-Americans in the event in Tide history. Talley (1986) and Bramlett (2002) are the only Alabama hurdlers to win national championships in the high hurdles.
In Friday's field event finals, Joe Williams (187 feet, 5 inches; 57.13 meters), Hayden Reed (180-8; 55.06m), and Kord Ferguson (180-5; 54.99m) finished 11th, 16th and 17th, respectively in the men's discus while Justin Fondren tied for 22nd in the high jump at 6-10 ¼ (2.09m).
Friday's men's finals concludes Alabama's participation in the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

High Jump Final – In his fourth and final appearance in the NCAA Championships, senior Justin Fondren tied for 22nd with a mark of 6-10 ¼ (2.09m). The mark is his seventh-best of the season.

110-Meter Hurdles Final – Junior Tony Brown finished sixth in a time of 13.81 to become Alabama's first All-American in the 110-meter hurdles since Ron Bramlett in 2002 and just the sixth All-American in the event in Alabama history. Brown's time equals his fourth-best effort of the year.
