Track & Field Enjoys Success at FSU Relays

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Alabama men's and women's track & field teams produced a number of outstanding performances on Friday at the FSU Relays, hosted by Florida State University on the Mike Long Track in Tallahassee, Fla.
On the men's side, Justin Fondren was the top competitor in the high jump for the second meet in a row, clearing 6-9 (2.06m). Redshirt freshman Daniel Haugh recorded the best toss of the day in the hammer throw with his effort of 198-3 (60.42m), and fellow redshirt freshman Kord Ferguson won the shot put event with a heave of 61-3 1/2 (18.68m). Senior Hayden Reed also claimed the discus title, throwing a 182-8 (55.69m).
Junior Diamond Gause and senior Kimberley Ficenec picked up event titles for the second consecutive weekend. Gause ran the 100 meters in 11.77 and Ficenec cruised to another 800-meter win behind a time of 2:07.68, which is the No. 4 time on the NCAA list in the event this season. Sophomore Haley Teel came up with an outdoor personal best of 51-6 1/2 (15.71m) to win the shot put.
Below is a closer look at Alabama's performances on Friday.
Men's Event Summaries
100 Meters - Senior Tadashi Pinder ran a personal-best time of 10:45 to finish third in the 100 meters.
200 Meters - Senior Ahmed Ali claimed the runner-up position in the 200 meters, dashing across the finish line in 20.99. Freshmen Skyler Bowden (21.62) and Matthew Likely (23.00) also ran in the event for the Tide.
800 Meters - Running the 800 meters at an outdoor meet for the first time in his career, Parker Deuel recorded a time of 1:56.84 for third.
1,500 Meters - Sophomore Connor Ferrentino placed fifth in the 1,500 meters with a personal best of 3:52.42, while junior Payton Ballard (3:57.35) was eighth.
5,000 Meters - Junior Evan Prizy, in his first 5,000-meter race outdoors, produced a time of 15:07.62 to finish first in the event. Senor Justin Ahalt was third in 15:10.91.
2,000-meter Steeplechase - Senior Eric Sivill crossed the finish line third in the 2,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 5:48.15 and sophomore Josh Short (5:56.43) was just behind him for fourth.
4x100-Meter Relay - The quartet of senior Tadashi Pinder, senior Ahmed Ali, junior Jeremiah Green and freshman Matthew Likely combined for a fourth-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay thanks to a time of 40.59.
High Jump - Coming off of his high jump title at last weekend's John Mitchell Alabama Relays, senior Justin Fondren cleared 6-9 (2.06m) for the top mark in the event.
Hammer Throw - Redshirt freshman Daniel Haugh came up with the best toss of the day in the hammer throw thanks to his effort of 198-3 (60.42m).
Shot Put - Redshirt freshman Kord Ferguson won the shot put behind his heave of 61-3 1/2 (18.68m). Ferguson now leads the Tide in both the shot put and discus. Junior Kyle Felpel was the runner-up with his throw of 60-8 (18.49m). Junior Nathan Karr recorded a 56-8 3/4 (17.29m) and fellow junior Hayden Reed had a best effort of 54-6 3/4 (16.63m).
Discus - Reed won the discus after throwing a 182-8 (55.69m), while Haugh claimed the runner-up position with a mark of 181-0 (55.17m).
Javelin - Senior Kevin Shannon threw a personal best of 218-0 (66.46m) in the javelin and redshirt freshman Will Edwards improved upon his mark at the Alabama Relays with a 203-11 (62.17m).
Women's Event Summaries
100 Meters - Junior Diamond Gause won her second 100-meter title of the season, crossing the finish line in 11.77. Sophomore Filippa Fotopoulou (12.20) was fifth and freshman Janel Pate (12.26) was sixth.
100-Meter Hurdles - Junior Vanessa Clerveaux recorded a time of 13.49 for runner-up honors in the 100-meter hurdles, which was just off of her personal best time of 13.46.
200 Meters - In her first outdoor meet as a member of the Crimson Tide, junior Domonique Williams ran 24.55 in the 200 meters for second place. Pate finished fourth with a time of 24.82 and Olivia Fotopoulou placed fifth in 24.87.
400 Meters - Junior Alex Gholston was third in the 400 meters, finishing in a time of 55.21, while freshman Katie Funcheon was just behind her for fourth in 55.31.
400-Meter Hurdles - Sophomore Kaitlin Walker was the runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles thanks to her time of 1:01.77. Freshman Jada Jackson ran fifth in 1:09.20.
800 Meters - Senior Kimberley Ficenec claimed the 800-meter title, just as she did at the Alabama Relays last weekend. Her time of 2:07.68 currently ranked fourth in the nation in the event for the season. Freshman Kristyn Williams was second in 2:09.56, while freshman Sarah Mohan (2:13.89) finished fifth and sophomore Emily Edwards (2:13.95) placed sixth.
1,500 Meters - Mohan also ran the 1,500 meters for Alabama on the day, crossing the finish line in 4:36.05.
2,000-meter Steeplechase - Freshman Calli Coggins claimed the 2,000-meter Steeplechase with a time of 7:24.39 while teammate and fellow rookie Nicole Gardner was second in 7:33.57.
4x100-Meter Relay - The 4x100-meter relay squad of junior Vanessa Clerveaux, junior Diamond Gause, junior Alex Gholston and sophomore Olivia Fotopoulou finished second with a combined time of 44.83.
High Jump - Freshmen high jumpers Stacey Destin and Claire Orcel finished third and fourth, respectively. Destin cleared 5-7 1/4 (1.71m) and Orcel bowed out after the 5-5 1/4 (1.66m) mark.
Long Jump - Senior Lacey Dent claimed third-place in the long jump with a best leap of 18-11 3/4 (5.78m).
Hammer Throw - Throwing for the first time this outdoor season, sophomore Danielle McConnell produced a toss of 182-10 (55.73m) to finish third in the hammer throw.
Shot Put - Sophomore Haley Teel had the best mark in the shot put on Friday with an outdoor personal best of 51-6 1/2 (15.71m).
Discus - Teel also finished third in the discus after a throw of 163-9 (49.91m). Freshman Holly Julifs finished sixth thanks to her best effort of 147-4 (44.91m).
