Alabama Rowing Has Successful Outings in Tuscaloosa and Sacramento

**CALIFORNIA RECAP AND RESULTS UPDATED WITH NEW FINISHES**
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama Rowing had a successful Saturday in two separate races, with the Crimson Tide sweeping four races against Drake in Tuscaloosa and earning a pair of wins in the Varsity 8+ in Sacramento, Calif., at the Lake Natoma Regatta against Sacramento State, San Diego State and St. Mary's.
"Today was one of our most successful days of competition in California since we won the Cal Cup at the San Diego Crew Classic in 2011," Head Coach Larry Davis said. "As far as what we are trying to accomplish as a team and improving as a program, today was a great step forward."
Alabama's First Varsity 8+ won both sessions in California, the first ever back-to-back wins for the Tide 1V8+ on the road. The crew posted a 6:33.7 in the morning session and followed with a 6:47.1 in the afternoon. Alabama's Second Varsity 8+ swept both of its races as well, defeating St. Mary's in the morning (6:49.9) and Sacramento State in the evening (6:54.7). The Varsity 4+ turned in the Tide's fifth win of the day in the morning session against St. Mary's, finishing in 7:41.5 while they placed behind Sacramento State in the afternoon session in 7:45.5.
Back in Tuscaloosa, Alabama hosted Drake for four races on the Black Warrior River with the Tide sweeping all four. Alabama's First Varsity 8+ posted the fastest time of the day, crossing the line with a winning time of 7:22.6. The Second Varsity 8+ also finished in under eight minutes, winning its race in 7:38.0. Alabama's winning First Varsity 4+ finished in 8:15.1 and its Second Varsity 4+ in 8:41.6.
The team's contingent in California will compete in a morning session on Sunday, March 20 before the whole team reunites on April 9-10 for the Knecht Cup in Mercer, N.J.
