Lauren Beers Named to SEC Gymnastics Community Service Team

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - University of Alabama All-American and Elite 89 Award winner Lauren Beers has been named to the 13th-annual Southeastern Conference Gymnastics Community Service Team, the league office announced Friday.
A five-time All-American, Beers earned a place on the SEC team for the second year in a row after working with as a volunteer with the Yeah Yeah Yeah 5K race, Read Across America, Northport Funeral Service Day, Project Angel Tree, the RISE School, visited the DCH Cancer Center and the Tuscaloosa Magnet School as well as Tide Tykes.
A three-year Scholastic All-American and winner of the 2014 and 2015 NCAA Elite 89 Awards, Beers earned her undergraduate degree in exercise science last summer with a perfect 4.0 grade point average and is currently working on a master's degree.
The SEC sponsors a Community Service Team for each of the 20 sports it sponsors. The Gymnastics Community Service Team represents eight SEC gymnasts, one from each competing institution, highlighting an athlete from each school who gives back to their community in superior service efforts.
Previous Crimson Tide honorees are: Kim Jacob (2014, 2013), Ria Domier (2012), Alyssa Chapman (2011), Kassi Price (2010), Ricki Lebegern (2009, 2008), Courtney Priess (2007), Dana Pierce (2006, 2005) and Stephanie Kite (2004).
Beers and No. 4-ranked Alabama begin the postseason Saturday with the SEC Championships in the evening session that gets underway at 5 p.m. CT in Verizon Arena in Little Rock, Ark.
