TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama senior Haylie McCleney was named one of 30 candidates for the 2016 Senior CLASS award, which celebrates senior student-athletes use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as community leaders.
The Senior CLASS award, which stands for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, is awarded each year to a senior student-athlete that best exemplifies the four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans with the winner announced at the Women's College World Series.
McCleney is a senior exercise science major and holds a 4.0 cumulative GPA at Alabama. She is a two-time Academic All-American and was named the Academic All-America Team Member of the Year for Division I softball last season. She is just the second player in program history to earn First Team honors as both an All-American and Academic All-American in the same season, doing so as a sophomore and junior. Charlotte Morgan (2010) and Kayla Braud (2013) previously won the award at Alabama, while Kaila Hunt (2014) was a finalist.
