With a season-high six blocks against McNeese State, Knight moved into the top spot in the league in rejections
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama women's basketball's Ashley Knight was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday. This is the first weekly honor for Knight and second for the Crimson Tide this season as Jordan Lewis won the first SEC Freshman of the Week award on Nov. 17.
Knight had a monster week in Alabama's three games played, specifically against McNeese State on Monday, Dec. 19, where she finished with her second double-double of the season with 16 points and 12 rebounds, in addition to a season-best six blocks. Her six rejections ties for the third most in a single game in program history and moved her up to 25 blocks on the season, which is the most in the SEC by any student-athlete. Knight is only 14 blocks shy of entering the Tide's single season top 10 list already.
For the week, Knight nearly averaged a double-double with 9.7 points and 8.7 rebounds to go along with her 3.3 blocks, all while playing an average of just 21 minutes. She also made her first start in the crimson and white in Alabama's win over Georgia Tech.
Knight, and the rest of the Tide, are back in action Tuesday, Dec. 20, in the final game of the Patrick Harrington Classic, which is being played at Raider Arena on the campus of Northwest Florida State College in Niceville. Alabama will face UTEP at 7:05 p.m. CT.
