Alabama Men’s Golf Team Finishes Day One of Cypress Point Classic

Tide drops a pair of matches to top-15 opponents
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – The Alabama men's golf team finished the first two rounds of play on Monday at the Cypress Point Classic, which is being held at the par-72, 6,509-yard Alister MacKenzie course at Cypress Point Club in Pebble Beach, Calif. The Crimson Tide dropped its two matches on the day, falling to the 11th-ranked USC Trojans in the morning four-ball event, before dropping the afternoon match to the No. 8 Wake Forest Demon Deacons in the foursome competition.
Alabama, seeded No. 6 in the tournament, opened the two-day 54-hole event with a 9.5-2.5 defeat to the third-seeded Trojans in four-ball play. Davis Riley and Lee Hodges were paired together and earned two points, while the combination of Tyler Hitchner and Josh Sedeno earned half a point. The duo of Steven Setterstrom and Robby Prater did not earn any points in the morning round.
In the afternoon, Alabama dropped a 10-2 decision against second-seeded Wake Forest in the foursome competition. The combination of Hitchner/Sedeno and Setterstrom/Prater each earned a point for the Tide in the second round, while Riley and Hodges were held scoreless.
The tournament uses a format where each individual match is worth four team points, two points for the overall winner, one point for the front nine winner and one point for the back nine winner.
Alabama will take on No. 15 ranked Georgia in Tuesday's third and final round. Each of the six Crimson Tide golfers playing will compete in a singles match.
