SODERHAMN, Sweden - Alabama track and field's Elias Hakansson won the men's hammer throw title during day one of the Friidrotts-SM 2015 Soderhamn being held in Soderhamn, Sweden. The event featured the best active hammer throwers in Sweden.
Hakansson claimed the victory with a throw of 233-11 (71.31 meters) on his second attempt, which was just off his school record of 234-2 (71.37 meters) that he set on March 20, 2014 at the Alabama Relays. He also had the second longest mark of the event, tossing a 231-6 (70.56 meters) on this fourth attempt.
The junior from Halmstad, Sweden, missed all of the 2014-15 season with an injury, but was a First Team All-American in the outdoor hammer throw as a freshman and a Second Team All-SEC honoree in the event as a sophomore.
