Successful Summer Continues for Alabama Men's Tennis

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Becker O'Shaughnessey highlighted a busy weekend for the Alabama men's tennis team, as the senior captain captured both the singles and doubles title at the Georgia State Sandy Springs Men's Open. Incoming freshman Spencer Richey was also in action, earning notable victories over top seeds to reach the quarterfinals of the USTA National Clay Court Championships in Delray Beach, Florida.
Playing in his home state, Macon, Georgia native O'Shaughnessey earned a pair of straight-set victories to reach the finals of the Georgia State Sandy Springs Men's Open, and ultimately took down Daniel Bruce by a final score of 7-5, 7-6(3) to claim the singles crown. Paired with fellow Georgian Andrew Dromsky, O'Shaughnessey and his partner surrendered just five games in route to the doubles championship match, earning victories of 6-0, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-4 in the draw's early rounds. In the tile match, O'Shaughnessey/Dromsky defeated Bailey Showers and Sam Slade, 6-4, 6-2 to capture the doubles championship.
Incoming freshman Spencer Richey from Memphis, Tennessee reached the quarterfinals of the USTA National Clay Court Championships in Delray Beach, Florida, earning notable victories over top seeds through the tournament's first five rounds. Richey defeated No. 7 seed JJ Wolf in the third round and knocked off No. 9 seed John McNally in the round of 16. McNally won both the singles and doubles titles in the 16s division at the USTA Boy's National Hardcourt Championships last August.
Coming off of his singles title at the ITA Summer Circuit event in Tennessee, sophomore transfer from Florida State Grayson Goldin will be back in action this week at the Godfrey Illinois Futures tournament. Goldin is expected to play singles and doubles at the event.
