Men's Tennis Hosts Trio of Matches This Weekend

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The No. 60 men's tennis team (12-10, 2-3 SEC) returns home this weekend for a trio of matches, hosting No. 23 LSU (13-3, 3-2 SEC) on Friday, March 20, at 5 p.m. CT before welcoming No. 7 Texas A&M (9-3, 4-1 SEC) and Mercer (7-9) for a doubleheader on Sunday, March 22, at 1 p.m. CT and 5 p.m. CT, respectively. Matches will be played at the Alabama Tennis Stadium, and admission is free.

The Crimson Tide went 1-1 last weekend on the road, earning a 4-1 victory at No. 39 Auburn before being edged at No. 18 Florida, 4-2. Alabama led from the start against the Tigers, winning the doubles point and the first point in singles with a victory on court one from freshman Korey Lovett, whereas on Sunday, UA overcame a 3-0 deficit to pull within one of the Gators only to fall in a third set on court five. As the match was clinched, Lovett was leading 5-3 in the third set, serving 15-0. Junior Becker O'Shaughnessey won both of his singles matches over the weekend to extend his streak to seven consecutive victories, the longest on the team. Freshman Sam Edwards picked up the first Southeastern Conference victory of his career at Florida, winning 6-2, 6-3, over Oliver Landert.

LSU is undefeated at home this season, which includes a pair of wins last weekend in Baton Rouge where the Tigers defeated No. 11 Vanderbilt, 4-1, and New Orleans, 7-0. LSU has two ranked singles players in Jordan Daigle (No. 85) and Chris Simpson (No. 117) and a pair of ranked doubles teams including Boris Arias and Daigle (No. 18) and Tam Trinh and Eric Perez (No. 71).

Texas A&M stepped out of conference play last time out and split matches with No. 4 Illinois and Abilene Christian, falling 4-2 to the Illini before beating the Wildcats, 6-1, later on Sunday night. The Aggies have four nationally-ranked singles players in Harrison Adams (No. 48), Jeremy Efferding (No. 65), Shane Vinsant (No. 71) and AJ Catanzariti and two ranked doubles team in Adams and Vinsant (No. 9) and Jordan Szabo and Efferding (No. 26).

Mercer has won four of its last six matches, including a program first in the Southern Conference, defeating UNCG, 4-3. The Tide will be the Bears' fourth SEC opponent this season as they have already faced Arkansas twice, Auburn twice and Tennessee.
