TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The men's tennis team lost at Oklahoma State, 4-1, on Saturday in the Crimson Tide's first true road match of the season. With the loss, the 45th-ranked Tide dips to 2-4 overall, while the win lifts the No. 31 Cowboys to 6-2.
Alabama fought hard to get the doubles point, where after a 6-0 loss on court three, Tide junior Becker O'Shaughnessey and freshman Korey Lovett came back from a 5-3 deficit to pick up a 7-6(4) win over 12th-ranked senior Jakob Sude and sophomore Arjun Kadhe. The point came down to court two, where Cowboy redshirt freshman Lukas Finzelberg and sophomore Jurence Mendoza eventually edged out UA senior Stuart Kenyon and sophomore Sean Donohue, 7-5, to give Oklahoma State a one point lead.
Oklahoma State took a 2-0 edge in the match after collecting the first point in singles on court six where Mendoza beat out senior Andrew Goodwin, 6-0, 6-0. Tide freshman Danny Kerznerman answered that with a 6-0, 6-0 victory of his own on court four, topping Finzelberg to get Alabama on the board. From there, the Cowboys would go on to win the matches on two and three despite second set comebacks from the Tide on both courts. On court two, Kadhe posted a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Lovett, while sophomore Lucas Gerch sealed the team win for Oklahoma State with a 6-1, 7-6 decision over Kenyon on court three.
The Tide continues its tour of Oklahoma tomorrow playing the No. 2 Sooners at Noon in Norman.
