TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The 2015 Southeastern Conference Champion Alabama gymnastics team was officially added to the Sarah Patterson Champions Plaza Friday afternoon during the Crimson Tide's second Celebration of Champions.
The Tide also honored its six individual NCAA champions from last year, including women's track and field athletes Remona Burchell and Quanesha Burks, swimmer Kristian Gkolomeev, the women's tennis doubles tandem of Maya Jansen and Erin Routliffe as well as women's golfer Emma Talley.
The ceremony featured master of ceremonies Eli Gold, UA President Stuart Bell, Director of Athletics Bill Battle, former UA gymnastics coach, and the plaza's namesake, Sarah Patterson and current UA head coach Dana Duckworth. The celebration was capped by the 2015 gymnastics team unveiling its addition to the plaza.
The Sarah Patterson Plaza honors all of Alabama's SEC and national championship teams -- from the 1934 SEC men's basketball and baseball champions to last year's gymnastics champions - outside of the football program's titles, which are recognized in front of Bryant-Denny Stadium.
