Tide Men Ranked No. 11 in National Team Rankings

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Alabama men's track & field team rose two positions to No. 11 in this week's edition of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I National Team Computer Rankings released Monday, the first in-season survey of the 2015 season. The Crimson Tide men were 13th in the USTFCCCA preseason rankings. The Tide men are ranked fourth in this week's South Region rankings, the first regional rankings of the 2015 season, while the Alabama women are No. 7 in the South Region team survey.
The national team rankings are compiled by mathematical formulae based on national descending order lists and data taken from previous seasons. The purpose and methodology of the rankings is to create an index that showcases the teams that have the best potential of achieving the top spots in the national team race. Rankings points do not equate with NCAA Championships team points.

Crimson Tide junior Alex Amankwah currently owns the fastest men's 800-meters time in the world this season and is one of six University of Alabama athletes, along with the Tide's men's 4x400-meter relay team, to rank among the top 20 on current world lists, according to AllAthletics.com as of Monday morning, Jan. 26 ... Amankwah and his Alabama teammate, sophomore Jacopo Lahbi, posted the world's No. 1 and No. 3 times in the men's 800 meters on Saturday in Nashville, Tenn., at the Vanderbilt Invitational ... Amankwah set a school record of 1 minute, 46.86 seconds to edge Lahbi, who broke the tape in 1:48.28 ... four men and two women from represent the Tide on this morning's list ... sophomore Allison Gregg ranks no. 6 on the list in the women's 5,000 meters after running a 17:00.17 on Saturday in Nashville ... senior sprinter Remona Burchell ranks tied for 9th in the world in the women's 60-meter dash via her 7.25 clocking on Saturday in Nashville ... on the men's mile, the Tide's Robbie Farnham-Rose and Matt Airola are both among the world leaders so far via performances posted on Jan. 17 at the Auburn Invitational in Birmingham ... Farnham's 4:03.75 ranks 8th while Airola's 4:05.37 is 11th in the world ... Alabama's men's 4x400-meter relay unit of Quincy Smith, Alex Amankwah, Marlon Humphrey and Nick Efkamp ran 3:09.88 on Saturday in Nashville, a time that is currently 7th on the World List ... Amankwah leads all collegiate runners in the men's 800 meters following his school-record performance on Saturday, leading a group of 12 Crimson Tide athletes in 10 events (plus the men's 4x400-meter relay unit) that rank among the nation's top 20 through Sunday, Jan. 25 ... three Alabama track & field athletes have produced the SEC's top results in three events so far in 2015, leading a group of 22 athletes in 17 events plus three relay teams that rank among the conference's top 10 overall this season ... Amankwah leads the conference in the men's 800 with Lahbi ranking second ... Justin Fondren, a junior, leads the SEC in the men's high jump (7-1 1/2; 2.15m) ... sophomore Cameron Hudson leads the SEC in the men's long jump (25-1 1/4; 7.65m) ... Burchell is the leading female athlete for the Crimson Tide, ranking second in the women's 60-meter dash ... Crimson Tide athletes compiled four event victories (two men's and two women's) while producing nine performances (six women's, three men's) that rank in the school's all-time top 10 in seven events (five women's, two men's) at the Vanderbilt Invitational ... Burchell twice broke the facility record in the women's 60, running two of the 10 fastest times in Alabama history with a 7.28 in the preliminary heats and a winning 7.25 in the final, a time that ranks sixth in Alabama history ... sophomore Tony Brown won the men's 60-meter hurdles in 7.89, the No. 7 time on the all-time Alabama list ... sophomore Alex Gholston earned a career landmark victory in the women's 400 in 53.90, a performance that ranks no. 7 on the all-time Crimson Tide list ... junior Cameron Hudson led Alabama with a second-place finish in the men's 60-meter dash with a time of 6.73 seconds, and also took second in the long jump with a best of 25-1 1/4 (7.65 meters), the top mark in the SEC so far in 2015 ... junior Kimberley Ficenec placed third in the women's 800 in 2:07.20, the no. 7 performance in Alabama history ... the Crimson Tide men's foursome of Quincy Smith, Alex Amankwah, Marlon Humphrey and Nick Efkamp was a close second in the 4x400-meter relay in a time of 3:09.88,a time that ranks just outside of the top 10 in Alabama history ... sophomore Allison Gregg shaved more than 30 seconds off her previous personal best in the women's 5,000 meters in 17 minutes, 0.17 seconds, cutting 33 seconds off of her previous 5,000-meter indoor PR and a full 22 seconds off of her outdoor 5k all-time best ... freshman Daniel Haugh was third in the men's weight throw with a throw of 62 feet, 4 1/2 inches (19.01 meters) .. senior Charodd Richardson, the 2014 SEC weight throw champion, was fourth at 61-2 3/4 (18.66) ... junior Justin Fondren was the top collegiate finisher in the men's high jump, clearing 7 feet, 1/2 inch (2.15 meters) ... 2014 SEC men's triple jump champion Jeremiah Green started his sophomore season on Friday night with a sixth-place finish at 51 feet, three inches (15.62m) ... sophomore Lakan Taylor was the top collegiate finisher in the women's pole vault with a clearance of 13 feet, 9 ¼ inches (4.20 meters), finishing runner-up to former Alabama All-American Alexis Paine, who made her post-collegiate debut with a victory by clearing 14-1 1/4 (4.30m) ... Taylor's final height ranks her 12th nationally, fifth in the SEC this season, and is no. 6 on the all-time Crimson Tide list senior ... Merilyn Uudmae produced the fifth-longest triple jump in Crimson Tide history on the way to a fifth-place finish in the women's triple jump ... Uudmae's final mark of 41 feet, 7 inches (12.67 meters) moved her into the all-time Tide top 5 ... Alabama athletes will compete at two meets this weekend, as the majority of the team will travel to the New Mexico Team Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., on Saturday, Jan. 31, while several throwers will compete at the Indiana Relays this Friday-Saturday, Jan. 30-31.
