Softball Boasts 11 NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes

TUSCALOOSA, Ala . - Eleven members of the 2014 Alabama Softball team have been named NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes for their outstanding efforts in the classroom.
A student-athlete must earn a 3.5 or better GPA on a 4.0 scale to be named an All-America Scholar Athlete. Alabama's honorees include Chaunsey Bell, Chandler Dare, Molly Fichtner, Andrea Hawkins, Danae Hays, Ryan Iamurri, Sydney Littlejohn, Haylie McCleney, Jordan Patterson, Danielle Richard and Jadyn Spencer.
As a team, Alabama ranked 15th nationally with a 3.512 team GPA, which is second in the SEC behind only Kentucky at 3.56. The national leader was Nebraska at 3.67.
Last spring, Fichtner, Iamurri and McCleney were also named Capital One Academic All-Americans, part of a program-record four honorees along with Kaila Hunt. McCleney was also named a First Team All-American, joining Kayla Braud (2010-13) as the only players in school history to be named First Team All-American and First Team Academic All-American in the same season.
