TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The defending Southeastern Conference champion Alabama gymnastics team got the 2015 season underway with its first official practice Monday in the Frances Smith Practice Facility.
It was the first official practice as head coach for Dana Duckworth, who took over for Sarah Patterson, who stepped down as the Crimson Tide's mentor in July.
"There was a lot of passion, a lot of excitement in the gym today," Duckworth said. "We're all excited to officially get this season underway. Everyone is working hard so that we can be at our best when meets start in January."
While Duckworth and associate head coach Bryan Raschilla bring new titles and responsibilities going into this season, they have both enjoyed championship careers when it comes to Alabama gymnastics and certainly no strangers to the Tide's championship tradition. On the other hand, in addition to Alabama's new gymnasts - Mackenzie Brannan, Nickie Guerrero, Jennie Loeb, Mackenzie Valentin and Kiana Winston - there is also a new face on the coaching staff this season. Bill Lorenz joined Tide this summer after a decade at Ohio State.
New season ticket packages are on sale now through the Alabama Ticket Office (205.348.2262) located in the lobby of Coleman Coliseum, or online at RollTide.com. Fans can keep up with the Tide via Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube by following BamaGymnastics.
