Rowing Competes at Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - Alabama Rowing opened its spring slate with two days of races at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational, hosted by the University of Louisville. Crews competed on a 2,000-meter course over three sessions.Â
On the morning session on Saturday, Alabama was matched up against Wisconsin and Kansas. Alabama's Varsity 8 completed the course in 7:06.95, while their 2nd Varsity 8 finished with a weekend-best 7:15.63. The Varsity 4 finished with a weekend-best 8:10.33, while the 2nd Varsity 4 placed in 8:28.72. Alabama's Novice 8 placed second, earning a narrow win over West Virginia as they crossed the line in 7:33.96, six seconds ahead of the Mountaineers.Â
In the second session on Saturday, the Crimson Tide raced alongside Tennessee and Dayton. Alabama's Varsity 8 had its best race of the weekend, placing second in 6:56.73. The 2nd Varsity 8 finished in 7:23.32 and the Varsity 4 finished in 8:12.34. The 2nd Varsity 4 earned a hard-fought victory over conference-rival Tennessee, finishing over six seconds ahead of the Lady Vols in 8:10.20. The 3rd Varsity 4 boat won its race, finishing in 8:18.70, while the Novice 8 finished second in 7:32.71.Â
In the final session of the weekend, Alabama was matched up against the Minnesota Golden Gophers. The Varsity 8 finished in 7:24.26, while the 2nd Varsity 8 placed in 7:31.07. The Varsity 4 finished in 8:33.61, the 2nd Varsity 4 finished in 8:39.50 and the 3rd Varsity 4 ran a tight race against the Gophers, crossing the finish in 8:16.85, just four seconds behind the Minnesota crew.Â
Alabama rowing continues its season next weekend with a two-day competition in Sacramento, Calif, against Sacramento State, San Diego State and St. Mary's.
