Alabama Head Coach Kristy Curry
Opening statement:
"The crowd today and the fifth graders that were here were absolutely wonderful. I told our players before the game that when those kids leave here today they need to know what great energy and effort is - whether it's your books, sports or everyday life. We had an opportunity to really impact their lives today in a positive way, and I thought our team came out with a lot of energy. It was awesome to see so much energy in the building, and we are appreciative of our school systems' support today. We hope that we were able to give a little bit back by displaying our energy and effort in how much we appreciate it."
On the team's energy and effort today:
"I think the bottom line is being able to embrace it every day at a different pace. Ten years from now you don't get to choose what days you show up to work. To be honest, I am disappointed that we are 23-70 for field goals, and we still can't shoot 75% from the free throw line. There is a lot that this basketball team has to take more pride in. The score is not indicative today of the fact that we still have a lot to work on. These kids play hard defensively and they will go hard for offensive glass, but we can't pick and choose what days it's important enough for us to want to win. Today we found a way to win, and we got to find a way every day to be successful and that just carries over into life."
#25 Briana Hutchen, Forward
On Alabama's defensive effort today:
"I think we really concentrated on the defensive part of things this week in practice. We came together before this game and decided that we are a defensive team, and that's how we are going to win games. If we concentrate on our defense then our offense will come easily."
On Alabama's offense and scoring today:
"This kind of game is a 'feel good' win for us. Seeing the ball go through the rim just gives you so much confidence for our future games. I think the practice that we had yesterday really concentrated on game-like shots; those same shots were being taken today and they went in."
