Ellis Ferreira is one of the most decorated Crimson Tide men's tennis player in program history. During his four years at The University of Alabama, Ferreira was a two-time All-American in doubles, earned All-SEC honors in both singles and doubles during the 1990 and 1991 seasons and was a two-time SEC doubles champion.
In doubles, he teamed up with John Stimpson to advance to the NCAA doubles championship semifinals where they lost to the eventual national champions. The Tide duo ended the year ranked No. 6 nationally. The next year Ferreira would team up with Rick Witsken to win 23 matches and finish, again, at No. 6 in the nation.
Ferreira is perhaps best known for his professional playing career, where he earned a world ranking of No. 2 in doubles and won the 2000 Australian Open with Rick Leach. Ferreira also won the mixed doubles championship with Corina Morariu in 2001. His other accomplishments in doubles play include reaching the French Open quarterfinal in 1999, the Wimbledon semifinal in 1996, and the U.S. Open final in 2000.
During his career in singles, Ferreira earned a ranking as high as 210 in the world, and competed in the 1994 Wimbledon and U.S. Open.
The 2014 reunion will be held Nov. 14-15. The event will include a Meet the Tide social, doubles mixer with current and former players, a tennis tailgate and the Alabama football game against Mississippi State. For more details, e-mail Coach Husack at ghusack@ia.ua.edu. Roll Tide!
