CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Alabama women's golf team finished with a final round total of 9-over 297 and a 54-hole total of 30-over 894 to place 11th at the Tar Heel Invitational, hosted at the par-72, 6,379 UNC Finley Golf Course.
"I think this team is going to be pretty good by the end of the year," Alabama head coach Mic Potter said. "Every round we were right on the verge of a break through and playing really well, and we just can't seem to finish. It is just little things here and there - a bad chip, a missed putt. We are giving ourselves opportunities, but we can't seem to capitalize. Part of that is just playing a lot more and practicing a lot better."
Lakareber Abe led the Crimson Tide individually, as she tied for 17th at 3-over par 219. Her final round 1-under 71 included two birdies. Abe showed continued improvement as she bettered her score each round.
Also counting toward the Alabama score today was freshman Nicole Morales, shooting a 1-over 73, equaling her best collegiate round. Mia Landegren added a 4-over 76 to finish tied for 56th at 13-over 229 for the weekend.
Cammie Gray of Northport, Ala., shot a final round of 5-over 77, as she placed tied for 59th at 14-over 230.
Emma Talley was the Crimson Tide's drop score during the final round, but finished with a 54-hole total of 6-over 222, tied for 25th.
Duke took home team honors with a 54-hole total of 2-under 862. South Carolina placed second (even-par 864), while North Carolina State finished third at 14-over 878. Rounding out the top five, Wake Forest finished fourth at 16-over 880 and Arkansas took home fifth with a 18-over par 882 performance.
The Crimson Tide returns to the course Oct. 24 at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C.
