TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Despite a steady rain throughout the day, Alabama softball enjoyed a productive first day of spring practice utilizing its state-of-the-art indoor facilities.
"It was great to have everyone back together after a lengthy break," Head Coach Patrick Murphy said. "We are lucky to have two indoor facilities which serve us well when it rains."
In their first team practice of 2014, the team did an eight-station hitting circuit, worked on throwing and fielding fundamentals and ran through team defensive situations.
"We will continue to work on fundamentals and get lots of swings over the next couple of practices," said Murphy. "Specifically, Danielle Richard, Jadyn Spencer, Jordan Patterson and Haylie McCleney all hit the ball really well today."
The Crimson Tide will open the 2014 season in just over three weeks when they head to Troy, Ala. for the Troy Subway Invitational, which begins on Friday, Feb. 7. Alabama will play five games over three days with matchups against Kennesaw State, North Florida, Northwestern State, Middle Tennessee State and Troy.
Anxious fans will have a special opportunity to get a preseason peek at the 2014 team at Alabama Softball Fan Appreciation Day on Saturday, Jan. 25 at Rhoads Stadium. Fans will have a chance to meet the team, win prizes and watch a scrimmage.
