TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Alabama men's golf coach Jay Seawell announced the release of the Crimson Tide's 2012-13 schedule on Thursday that features some of the most competitive tournaments in the nation.
"The 2012-13 schedule should be a challenging test for our golf team," Alabama head coach Jay Seawell said. "We have the opportunity to go to some of the nation's top courses and play against the best competition in collegiate golf. This schedule is an excellent way to prepare us for the SEC and NCAA Championships."
The Crimson Tide will begin the fall portion of its schedule with a return to the Carpet Capital Collegiate for the seventh straight season. The Carpet Capital will be played in Rocky Face, Ga., at The Farms Golf Course on September 7-9.
Alabama will cross the state line into Georgia again for the PING/Golfweek Fall Preview at the Crabapple Course at the Capital City Club in Atlanta. The Tide will get an early look at the layout that will host the 2013 NCAA Men's Golf Championships next spring.
Next on the schedule, UA will return home to host the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate at the Old Overton Club in Vestavia Hills, Ala., where the field will play 36 holes on Monday, October 15, and the final 18 on Tuesday, Oct. 16. The Crimson Tide has captured four of the last six team titles and three of the last six individual titles at the Jerry Pate.
Alabama will close fall competition at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational in Windermere, Fla., on Oct. 21-23. The Crimson Tide will be competing in the prestigious tournament for the fifth straight season. UA won the team title in 2011.
The spring season opens with a familiar stop in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, as the Tide takes part in the Puerto Rico Classic at the Rio Mar Country Club February 17-19. The Tide will be making their ninth consecutive visit to Puerto Rico, a place where they have captured the team title in 2008, 2011 and 2012.
Alabama returns to the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters for the second straight year. The Crimson Tide will travel to Las Vegas, Nev., on March 8-10 at the Southern Highlands Golf Club. UA will then make back-to-back trips to the state of Georgia for the Schenkel Invitational on March 15-17 and the Linger Longer Invitational on March 25-26.
The Tide wraps up its regular-season scheduled by making their first appearance in the Aggie Invitational on April 6-7. The event will be played on Texas A&M's Tradition Club in Bryan, Texas.
Postseason play begins April 19-21 with the SEC Championships being held at the Sea Island Golf Club's Seaside Course in St. Simons, Ga. NCAA Regional action gets underway May 16-18 and the NCAA Championships begin May 28 at the Crabapple Course at the Capital City Club in Atlanta.
The Crimson Tide return four starters from the 2012 NCAA Runner-up team, including consensus National Player of the Year Justin Thomas. Junior All-Americans Cory Whitsett and Bobby Wyatt are also back to anchor and deep and talented squad.
