Justin Thomas Falls in Semifinals of U.S. Amateur

CHERRY HILLS VILLAGE, Colo. - Alabama's Justin Thomas was defeated 3 and 2 on Saturday in the semifinals of the United States Amateur Championship by Michael Weaver on the par-71, 7,409-yard Cherry Hills Country Club.
Thomas, from Goshen, Ky., was just the fifth Alabama golfer to advance into the semifinals of the U.S. Amateur. He joins a select group of Alabama greats, including Jerry Pate (1974 winner), Cecil Ingram (1980 semifinalist), Dicky Pride (1991 semifinalist) and Michael Thompson (2007 finalist).
Thomas got off to another slow start in his match as Weaver won three of the first four holes. He extended his lead over Thomas to five shots after 10 holes. Thomas fought back to win the 12th, 14th and 15th holes to cut his deficit to two holes. Weaver then closed out the match with a birdie on the par-4 16th hole.
Weaver will face Chattanooga's Steven Fox in Sunday's 36-hole final at the Cherry Hills Country Club.
