TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The South Alabama Jaguars beat the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 10-1 in five innings to advance to the championship game of the 2012 NCAA Softball Tuscaloosa Regional in Rhoads Stadium. South Alabama will face No. 2 national seed Alabama Sunday at 1 p.m.
South Alabama scored three in the first inning and four in the second inning to take a commanding lead before Georgia Tech managed its lone win in the top of the third inning. The Jaguars then triggered the run rule in the bottom of the fourth inning when it added three more runs. Farish Beard picked up the win for South Alabama, pushing her record to 7-2 on the season, while Kylie Kleinschmidt took the loss for Georgia Tech, falling to 6-9.
A win by Alabama in Sunday's 1 p.m. game earns the Crimson Tide an NCAA Super Regional berth while a South Alabama win would necessitate a second game on Sunday, which would get underway at 3:30 p.m., with the winner of that game advancing to the Super Regional.
