TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The men's tennis team (6-12) will step out of conference play to take on Memphis (15-3) on Wednesday at the Alabama Tennis Stadium. First serve is set for 4 p.m. CT.
Last time out, the Crimson Tide competed in its final pair of Southeastern Conference road matches of the season, dropping a close 4-3 decision to South Carolina before falling 7-0 at No. 11 Florida. In the loss to the Gamecocks, Alabama was narrowly edged out in doubles, as the point was clinched on court three with a score of 9-7, but it was able to get singles victories from seniors Ricky Doverspike and Michael Thompson as well as sophomore Daniil Proskura.
Memphis enters Wednesday's contest on a five-match winning streak, with its most recent victory coming at SMU by a 5-2 decision. Throughout the stretch of five wins, the Tigers have lost a combined five total matches in singles and doubles. Memphis has a pair of ranked singles players in freshman David O'Leary, who comes in at No. 120, and freshman Connor Glennon, ranked No. 125. O'Leary has won his last 17 straight matches, all of which have come in dual match play.
Alabama is 8-5 all-time against Memphis, with the last meeting coming in 2009 when the Tide took a 6-1 victory in Tuscaloosa.
