TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The day after returning from Duluth, Ga. with it latest national championship, the back-to-back NCAA Gymnastics Champion Alabama Crimson Tide were visited by Crimson Tide basketball coach Anthony Grant, along with players Rodney Cooper and Levi Randolph.
Grant congratulated the gymnasts and coaches, and talked to the team about enjoying their moment of triumph and remembering that they arrived at that point as a team and that the journey to that moment had bonded them together as family for a lifetime. Visits after a championship by the Tide's third-year head basketball coach are becoming something of a tradition for the gymnasts. He also joined the gymnastics team after they won last year's regional championship, just days before they won the 2011 NCAA title.
"When we were on the bus going back to the hotel after winning the national championship this weekend, one of the first things the ladies asked was if Coach Grant would come and talk to them again," UA gymnastics coach Sarah Patterson said. "They were very excited about the idea and he was gracious enough to make that happen."
Patterson and her team will take part in a celebration of their national title this Saturday at 6 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum. The doors open at 5 p.m. and admission is free.
