
Women's Tennis Gears up for the SEC Championship

OXFORD, Miss. - The 11th-ranked women's tennis team earned a first-round bye in the 2012 Southeastern Conference Women's Tennis Tournament by virtue of its No. 2 seed and will take on the winner of the No. 10 seed Arkansas/No. 7 seed LSU match on Friday, April 20. First serve is slated for Noon at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.
The Crimson Tide closed out the regular season with a 4-3 win over Auburn last week, finishing the SEC season with a 10-1 record, its best in program history. In addition, Alabama claimed the Western Division title for the second consecutive season. The Tide enters postseason play with two players ranked nationally in singles as Mary Anne Macfarlane comes in at No. 19 this week, while Alexa Guarachi moved to No. 44. In doubles, Alabama has four teams ranked including No. 22 Guarachi and Courtney McLane, No. 38 Guarachi and McLane, No. 41 Macfarlane and Antonia Foehse and No. 83 McLane and Taylor Lindsey.
The Razorbacks, who stand at 11-12 on the season, broke a five match losing streak last weekend when they defeated LSU in Baton Rouge 5-2. In the regular-season meeting, Alabama defeated Arkansas 4-1 in Fayetteville.
The Tigers, standing at 11-11 overall, enter postseason play on a four-match losing streak, with the closest score during the stretch a 5-2 loss to the Razorbacks. The Tide also defeated LSU during the regular season, winning 4-0 in Baton Rouge.
