
Men's Tennis to face Tennessee in the SEC Championship

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The men's tennis team (10-14) will take on No. 16 Tennessee (13-12) in the first round of the 2012 SEC Tennis Championship on Thursday in Starkville, Miss. First serve is set for 11 a.m. CT.
The Crimson Tide, the tournament's No. 11 seed, dropped a 4-1 decision to then-No 16 Auburn in both team's final matches of the regular season last week. Alabama currently has two nationally-ranked singles players in No. 99 Daniil Proskura and No. 104 Ricky Doverspike, as well as two ranked doubles teams in No. 40 Jarryd Botha and Doverspike and No. 74 Carlos Taborga and Proskura.
Tennessee, the No. 6 seed, ended its season with two straight losses, starting with a 6-1 loss to Alabama in Tuscaloosa followed by a 7-0 loss to No. 4 Georgia. The Volunteers have two nationally-ranked singles players in No. 32 Mikelis Libietis and No. 80 Hunter Reese, as well as one ranked doubles pair in No. 10 Libietis and Reese.
Alabama is 12-37 all-time against Tennessee.
The winner of the Alabama/Tennessee match will advance to the second round to take on host school, and No. 3 seed, Mississippi State at 11 a.m. on Friday.
