BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Junior Alexa Guarachi was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week for women's tennis, which was announced by the league office on Wednesday. This is her second weekly accolade of the season and third of her career.
Guarachi was instrumental in the Crimson Tide's pair of road wins last week, guiding Alabama to wins over No. 5 Georgia, 4-3, and No. 22 Tennessee, 6-1. She gave Alabama its first point of the match against the Bulldogs from the No. 2 singles spot, which helped the Tide to its second win against Georgia in program history and first since 1977. In the match against the Lady Volunteers, Guarachi clinched the victory, again from the No. 2 spot, knocking off the 28th-ranked singles player in the nation in straight sets.
The Destin, Fla. native is 27-7 this season in singles, including an 8-1 mark in SEC play. She has also racked up a 23-8 record in doubles.
