Rowing Earns Sixth Place Finishes at San Diego Crew Classic

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - In its second appearance at the prestigious San Diego Crew Classic, the Alabama rowing team posted a pair of sixth place finishes in the varsity 8+ events during Saturday's races held at Crown Point Shores on Mission Bay.
The Crimson Tide's first varsity 8+ took sixth place in the race for the Jessop-Whittier Cup, clocking a time of 7:12.75. Southern Cal took first place with at time of 6:37.28.
The Tide's second varsity 8+ also took sixth place, turning in a time of 7:10.43 in the hunt for the Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Trophy. UCLA crossed the line at 6:46.11 to win the race. Alabama's first varsity 4+ took seventh place in the Karen Plumleigh Cortney Cup race, posting a time of 8:08.34. Washington State turned in the race's top time, clocking a 7:29.64.
The Tide's 2V8 boat raced again Saturday afternoon, taking third place with a time of 7:03.37 behind Iowa's 6:55.38 and Gonzaga's 6:56.50. The first varsity 8+ boat will race again on Sunday.
