TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -
The University of Alabama track and field team returns to the road this weekend for the Ole Miss Invitational on March 31 in Oxford, Miss.
The one-day event gets underway at 10 a.m. for the Crimson Tide with the women's javelin featuring Brittany Hines and Bekah Hoppis. The pair finished second and fourth, respectively at last weekend's Alabama Relays. Field events will continue during the morning and afternoon as races begin on the track beginning at 11 a.m. with the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase. The day concludes at 7:40 p.m. with the men's 4x400-meter relay.
The Tide will compete against a pair of SEC programs in host Mississippi and Mississippi State. More than 10 other Division I programs are scheduled to be in the field including the likes of Memphis, Western Kentucky and Southern Illinois.
Other standouts scheduled to compete for the Tide in the early afternoon field events include Amethyst Holmes in the women's weight throw and Kamal Fuller in the men's long jump. Holmes has opened her season with back-to-back personal bests and has bettered her previous top performance by nearly a foot following a throw of 186-9 at the Alabama Relays. Fuller takes to the runway again after recording a jump of 24-8.5 last weekend to rank sixth in the nation.
On the track, the Tide will have competitors in 15 events including the women's 100-meter hurdles which saw Kaylon Eppinger and Audra Frimpong finish first and second in last weekend. Shani Chandler, who has won both her races this season in the women's 400-meter hurdles will aim for her third straight win this season.
Following this weekend's meet, the team will have a week off from competition before returning to action in the Spec Towns Invitational in Athens, Ga., April 13-14.
