TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Fresh off of its school-record 47-under-par, 22-shot victory at the Schenkel Invitational the No. 2 University of Alabama men's golf team returns to Georgia this weekend to defend its title at the Linger Longer Invitational.
Last year at the Linger Longer Invitational, Alabama swept team and individual honors, with the team finishing at 18-under-par and winning the title by 18 stokes while Cory Whitsett captured medalist honors with a career-low 13-under-par 203.
Hosted by Mercer and Kennesaw State on the 7,073-yar, par-72, Great Waters Golf Course at Reynolds Plantation in Eatonton, Ga., the Linger Longer Invitational features 12 teams. The field includes fellow SEC foe, No. 22 Georgia, Charleston Southern, Charlotte, Chattanooga, Jacksonville, hosts Kennesaw State and Mercer, Liberty, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and South Alabama.
The tournament begins on Saturday, March 24, with 36 holes (two rounds) and concludes on Sunday, March 25, with the final 18 holes.
Alabama head coach Jay Seawell will call on senior Hunter Hamrick, junior Scott Strohmeyer, sophomores Cory Whitsett and Bobby Wyatt and freshman Justin Thomas to start this weekend, the same lineup that won the Schenkel Invitational.
