TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The women's basketball team (10-14, 0-10 SEC) will travel to Oxford, Miss., to play the Mississippi Rebels (12-12, 2-9 SEC) for the second time this season. Tipoff for Thursday's game is set for 7 p.m. CT.
"When you play someone once, you have a better feel for that team," said Alabama head coach Wendell Hudson. "We have gone through these last couple practices knowing what we will see, and knowing their tendencies has helped us prepare."
Thursday's game will be the 52nd time the two teams have faced each other. The last game, which took place on January 15, went in Mississippi's favor, 69-55. Junior Kyra Crosby led Alabama in the game with 14 points, with sophomore Khristin Lee leading on the boards with eight rebounds, and in assists with seven for the game.
Alabama is still in search of its first Southeastern Conference victory as the Tide enters the game at 0-10 versus league opponents. Alabama's last game resulted in an 81-66 loss to No. 20 Georgia. The Tide was led in scoring by sophomore Shafontaye Myers and junior Meghan Perkins, who had 16 points apiece.
Mississippi is coming into Thursday's game on a six-game losing streak. In their latest game, the Rebels were topped by Florida, 84-55. Mississippi was led in scoring by sophomore Valencia McFarland, who had 11 points, six rebounds and four assists. In the last meeting between the Tide and Rebels, McFarland had 25 points, nine assists and one steal.
"Everything they run goes through their point guard (McFarland)," added Hudson. "She is a great player and accounted for the majority of their points and offense in general last time."
