TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The men's tennis team (1-2) will continue its preconference slate on Sunday when it hosts TCU (1-2) at 11 a.m. CT. The decision on whether the match will be played indoors or outdoors will be made in the morning based on the current weather conditions.
"TCU will be a good challenge for us," said Alabama head coach Billy Pate. "They've played some tough early season matches. They've got several new guys that we haven't seen and are well coached."
The Crimson Tide comes in having won its last match in a 4-1 decision to UC Irvine in Los Angeles during ITA Kick-Off Weekend. Alabama took the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. Junior Jarryd Botha and senior Ricky Doverspike led the way, winning both their doubles and singles matches.
The Horned Frogs will wrap up their tour in the Southeastern Conference when they take on the Tide on Sunday. TCU was in Athens, Ga. for ITA Kick-Off Weekend, falling to the fourth-ranked Bulldogs, 7-0, as well as Nebraska, 4-0, in the consolation match. The Horned Frogs were slated to take on No. 14 Mississippi State on Friday afternoon, but the match was postponed to Saturday.
Alabama is 4-6 all-time against TCU, but in last year's meeting the Tide won a close 4-3 victory in Fort Worth.
"We expect a tough match and will need a strong performance," added Pate. "We had a good week of practice, and we'll see if we can build on the success from our last match."
