OVERALAND PARK, Kan. - Alabama senior Cassie Reilly-Boccia (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) was named one of 30 candidates for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
In the classroom, Reilly-Boccia was named a NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete. She was named a Capital One Academic All-District 4 second team honoree and garnered SEC Academic Honor Roll accolades for the second straight season. She has been on the Alabama Dean's List every semester and belongs to the Exercise Physiology and the Golden Key Club at Alabama.
Reilly-Boccia spoke at an Alabama football pre-game luncheon held by coach Nick Saban. She is an Alabama Athletics Student Athlete Advisory Committee member. She initiated movement for parking rights for student athletic trainers. She worked on improving food selection in the University dining hall and was selected for the Emerging Tide Leaders Program through University of Alabama Athletic Advising Department. She is a Growing Tides Leader through the University of Alabama Athletic Advising Department, a Junior Leader Counselor and a speaker at several Tuscaloosa elementary and middle schools on National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
Reilly-Boccia participated in disaster relief and assisted displaced victims from the Tuscaloosa tornado. She assisted Notre Dame Student Athletes on their Rebuild Tuscaloosa trip and participated in Read Across America in Elementary Schools throughout Tuscaloosa. She is a member of the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation.
She also volunteered for the Alabama Athletics Student Athlete Advisory Committee Halloween Extravaganza, the Crossing Points program at Recreational Center and the University of Alabama Stallings's Center with RISE Program. She helped with the Beat Auburn, Beat Hunger (canned food drive), the Easter Seals Walk With Me, fundraiser, Project Angel Tree fundraiser for disadvantaged youths and families in Tuscaloosa and West Alabama and she spoke to and assisted with little league softball teams at their practices
Lowe's, an official Corporate Partner of the NCAA, will announce the Senior CLASS Award® winner during the 2012 NCAA Women's College World Series, which will be held May 31-June 6 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, Division I head coaches and fans who will select one finalist who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
