Tide wins four at UCF Invitational on Saturday

ORLANDO, Fla. - The men's tennis team earned four more wins Saturday on the second day of play at the UCF Invitational Tournament, which is being held at the UCF Tennis Complex. The Crimson Tide picked up three of its wins in doubles and its other victory in singles.
"It was another fairly successful day," said Alabama head coach Billy Pate, "though I thought we displayed a few areas where we need to practice."
Alabama began the day in doubles with a pair of matches against Indiana, where the Tide emerged victorious in both efforts. Senior Ricky Doverspike and freshman Filippos Tsangaridis edged out senior Jeremy Langer and junior Isade Juneau, 8-6, while senior Michael Thompson and freshman David Vieyra outlasted the Hoosier pair of seniors Stephen Vogl and Will Kendall, 9-7. Alabama also played two doubles matches against Radford with Thompson and Tsangaridis teaming up to beat sophomore Joe Mills and freshman Pat O'Keefe by a score of 8-2. Doverspike and Vieyra would, however, fall to their Highlander opponents in junior Thomas Dehaen and sophomore Nick Sayer, 8-5.
In singles action, Thompson picked up a close 7-5 win in his first set and cruised to a 6-2 victory in the second to beat Indiana's Kendall for the Tide's fourth win of the day. Doverspike took on Juneau, where the Alabama senior dropped a 1-6, 6-4, 7-5 decision. Also competing in singles was Tsangaridis and Vieyra, who fell to Langer, 6-2, 6-3, and Hoosier junior Josh MacTaggert, 6-2, 6-4, respectively.
"I was pleased with our doubles in the morning against Indiana as we had two close matches that we pulled out at the end," added Pate. We look forward to wrapping up play tomorrow against players from a very good Louisville team."
Matches will resume and finish on Sunday at 7 a.m. CT.
