BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Alabama's Geralen Stack-Eaton was named the Southeastern Conference Gymnast of the Week after opening her senior season with a perfect 10.0 on the vault against Georgia last Friday.
"This is a great honor for Geralen," UA head coach Sarah Patterson said. "There were a lot of great performances last week, but to score Alabama's first 10 since the 2005 season and the only one in the SEC this season, I think the honor is well deserved."
It was a career-best score for the Horsham, Pa., native and the first 10.0 for the Tide since Ashley Miles earned a pair of 10s (vault and floor exercise) in the 2005 NCAA Championships Super Six Team finals.
Stack-Eaton is the only SEC gymnast to post a perfect score this season. She led Alabama to a 49.550 team score on the vault, which has the Tide ranked second nationally on that event, making it the highest event ranking by any SEC school.
She also won the uneven bars against UGA with a 9.875 and posted Alabama's highest score on the balance beam with a 9.85. In addition to being ranked No. 1 in the nation on the vault, she is ranked 10th on the uneven bars and 14th on the balance beam.
The telecommunications and film major also earned SEC Gymnast of the Week honors during her sophomore and junior year. The eight-time All-American won the Tide's 22nd individual NCAA Championship last season, taking top honors on the floor exercise.
Stack-Eaton and her teammates take to the road for their next meet, traveling to State College, Pa., where they will face host Penn State, Michigan State and Cornell Saturday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. ET.
