
Hoffman Twice Honored During UA Football Game

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Kayla Hoffman, captain of Alabama's 2011 NCAA Gymnastics Championship Team, was twice honored in front of 101,821 fans Saturday during the halftime of the Alabama-Arkansas football game.
Hoffman, who enjoyed a season for the ages in 2011, was honored at the beginning of halftime as one of eight UA student-athletes to earn Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American honors last season. After that presentation, she was presented with the 2011 Honda Award, given annually to the nation's top gymnast by Allyson Edwards, Division Manager for Honda Manufacturing of Alabama.
Hoffman led the Crimson Tide to the NCAA, Regional and Southeastern Conference Championships last season. On the way to those titles, the five-time All-American became the first gymnast in league history to earn SEC Gymnast of the Year and SEC Gymnastics Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors in the same season.
The Union, N.J. native was named the Capital One Academic All-American At-Large Team Member of the Year in addition to earning NCAA and SEC Postgraduate Scholarships. She was also the sixth Alabama athlete and fifth Crimson Tide gymnast to be named SEC Female Athlete of the Year.
