BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
University of Alabama senior Carison Kemei has been named the Southeastern Conference Men's Cross Country Co-Runner of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Kemei shares the honor, the first of his career, with Kentucky's Luis Orta.
Last weekend at the Commodore Classic, the native of Eldoret, Kenya, helped lead the Crimson Tide to a second-place team finish in the 22-team field while individually finishing second out of 190 runners.
Kemei shaved two seconds off his season best 8-kilometer time to finish in 24:35.90, the fastest 8-kilometer time in the SEC this season. The performance was his second strong showing this season after winning the Georgia Invitational in the season opener.
He and his teammates will have two weeks of training to prepare for their next race, the Greater Louisville Classic on Oct. 1.
