SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Alabama soccer team was unable to make up for a quick deficit as it fell to the University of San Diego, 2-0, Friday night at Torero Stadium. With the loss, the Crimson Tide drop to 2-2-1 on the season. The Toreros improve to 4-1-0 overall.
Kelley McCloskey scored in the first minute for USD as she found net far post from the corner of the goal box on an assist by Lauren Dotson.
In the 51st minute the Toreros would bury an insurance goal as Natalie Garcia recorded her third goal on the season. Garcia was able to handle a corner from Elissa Magracia and put it in the roof of the goal for the second tally of the contest.
Alabama senior goalkeeper Justine Bernier tallied six saves in the losing the effort. Courtney Parson earned the shutout on the strength of two saves for San Diego.
McCloskey led all players with three shots for the Toreros, who out-shot the Tide, 13-3 on the night. Three different players recorded a shot for Alabama.
Alabama will remain in the San Diego area as it will close out its west coast road trip with a Sunday fixture against San Diego State. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. PT., on Sept. 4, at the SDSU Sports Deck.
