
Stanford Wins Game One, 5-2

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Stanford Cardinal (42-15) beat the Alabama Crimson Tide 5-2, to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three 2011 NCAA Softball Tuscaloosa Super Regional being held at Rhoads Stadium Thursday and Friday. Alabama (49-9) gave up three runs in the top of the second and two more in the top of the third before Alabama scored one in the bottom of the fourth to get on the board. The Tide scored again in the bottom of the seventh, but could get no closer. It was Alabama's first loss at home this season.
Stanford's Teagan Gerhart (26-11) took the win while UA's Kelsi Dunne fell to 26-4 with the loss. The two teams return to action Friday at 3:30 p.m. with Stanford as the home team. If Alabama comes away with the win, the two teams will decide the series starting at 6 p.m. on Friday.
