Tide Takes Fourth at Insperity Augusta State Invitational

AUGUSTA, Ga, - Three Tide golfers posted under-par scores in Sunday's final round to lead the University of Alabama men's golf team to a fourth-place team finish at the Insperity Augusta State Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. The Crimson Tide finished with a team total of 863 to finish 15 shots off team titlist Oklahoma State (848). Tennessee was second at 849 with Clemson taking third with a score of 859.
Whitsett, who carded rounds of 69 and 72 in the 36 holes of play on Saturday, finished the 54-hole tournament with a 6-under 210 to place in a tie for third in the medalist standings with Tennessee's Garrick Porteous (68-72-69=210). Oklahoma State's Kevin Tway won the medalist title with a 12-under par total of 204 (64-69-71=204).
The Tide's Bud Cauley shot a 2-under 70 on Sunday to finish at 218. Lee Knox shot 1-under 71 to complete the tournament at 224 while Hunter Hamrick shot 69-75-73=217 to place in a tie for 18th individually. Trey Mullinax shot a 77 on Sunday for a three-round total of 226.
Alabama now takes two weeks off to prepare for the 2011 SEC Men's Golf Championships, to be held Friday through Sunday, April 15-17, at the Seaside Golf Course at Sea Island, Ga.
