CLEVELAND - Friday night the No. 1 seeded Alabama gymnastics team competes in the second of two semifinal sessions at the NCAA Championships here in the Wolstein Center on the Cleveland State campus. Alabama advanced to the semifinals after winning its NCAA-best 26th regional title on April 2 with a 197.275, marking the Tide's sixth 197-plus score in its past seven meets.
Alabama has now advanced to 29 consecutive NCAA Championship. Only Utah, who has been to all 30 NCAA Championships, has a longer streak.
Alabama will start its semifinal session on the bye before the floor exercise. Since the Super Six Format started in 1993, Alabama has advanced to the NCAA Super Six Team Finals 16 of 18 years. Over the last 10 years (including 2011) Alabama has been in the second session seven times, with this year marking the third year in a row the Tide has been in the evening session.
Over that same span, Alabama has started on the bye before floor four times, and on the floor exercise itself three times, making the balance beam UA's last event in the semi-finals seven of the last 10 years. UA started on the vault in 2010, the beam and the bars in 2003.
