Women's Golf Begins Play at Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama's top-ranked women's golf team returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 27, at the Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship on the par-72, 6,200-yard English Turn Golf and Country Club in New Orleans.
The 17-field team at the Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate includes eight teams from the SEC: the Crimson Tide, LSU, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Auburn, Florida, Mississippi and Kentucky.
"There is going to be a good number of the top-10 teams in New Orleans and that provides a big challenge, but it is also an opportunity to once again compete against the best," Alabama head coach Mic Potter said. "We have spent a lot of time this week preparing for the Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate by pitching and chipping and putting, which was something we needed to work on after Puerto Rico."
The competitive field consists of seven top-10 teams in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, nine of the past 12 national champions, and nine of the top-10 individuals nationally.
The Crimson Tide will use the same lineup that won the Lady Puerto Rico Classic last week, which includes junior Brooke Pancake, senior Camilla Lennarth, sophomore Jennifer Kirby, true freshman Stephanie Meadow and senior Courtney Harter.
Pancake ranks fifth nationally and is first on the team with a 71.13 stroke average after 15 rounds this season. Lennarth follows close behind with a 71.27 scoring average and is ranked eighth.
Meadow captured medalist honors at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic and ranks 26th nationally in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, boasting a 72.33 scoring average. Kirby ranks 19th in the country and is third on the team with a 72.13 scoring average.
