TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama senior gymnast Kayla Hoffman is ranked No. 1 in the nation on the vault this week while the Crimson Tide jumped to No. 5 in this week's team rankings, the first determined by regional qualifying score (RQS).
The regional qualifying score is a formula that takes a team's top three road scores, its next three highest scores, drops the highest score and averages the remaining five. Alabama's initial RQS is 196.115, just six-hundredths of a point behind its next opponent, the Georgia Bulldogs, ranked fourth this week.
Florida continues to hold down the top spot in the rankings and is followed by Stanford at No. 2 and Oklahoma at No. 3. As a team, Alabama is second on the floor exercise, third on the vault, fifth on the balance beam and 21st on the uneven bars.
The nation's No. 1 ranked vaulter, Hoffman sports 9.910 RQS. Freshman Diandra Milliner is ranked sixth on the floor exercise while sophomore Ashley Sledge is 14th and junior Geralen Stack-Eaton is 18th on the vault.
After two weeks at home, Alabama returns to the road this Friday, taking on Georgia in Stegeman Coliseum starting at 7:30 p.m. ET. It will mark Alabama second consecutive "pink" meet, with both teams wearing pink leotards to raise awareness in the fight against breast cancer.
