Swimmers Final at USA Swimming Winter Nationals

ATLANTA, Ga. - On the first day of the USA Swimming Winter National Championships, being held in the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Ga., this week, Alabama's top performances came in the sprint and distance events.
Junior John Ellis took eighth in the "B" final of the 400-meter freestyle, finishing 18th overall, up two spots from his finish in the preliminaries earlier in the day. Ellis touched the wall with a 3:58.16 in finals, just off his prelims time of 3:57.71.
On the other end of the distance spectrum, sophomore Bjoern Hornikel was sixth in the "C" final of the 50m freestyle and 26th overall with a time of 23.18. Hornikel also moved up two spots from his prelims finish, where he touched at 23.31.
The Crimson Tide returns to action Friday, highlighted by freshman Kaylin Burchell in the women's 100m breaststroke and sophomore Alex Coci in the men's 100m butterfly.
