BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Senior Ericka Russell was selected to the preseason All-Southeastern Conference Second Team by league coaches on Tuesday. This marks the second all-conference nod for Russell in her career, as she was named to the 2009 All-Freshman Team.
Russell, a four-year starter for the Crimson Tide, has recorded 51 double-figure scoring outings in her career, including a high of 30 points in the 2010 SEC Tournament against Georgia. That performance was not only the highest of the tournament, but it also tied the most points in a single game by a sophomore in program history. In the final regular season game of the 2011 season, Russell buried eight three-pointers at Arkansas, tying the school record for threes in a single game. The week prior, she was named SEC Player of the Week after leading Alabama to wins against Auburn and Mississippi. Russell is on pace to become the 23rd member of the Tide's 1,000 Point Club as she enters the season 11 points shy of the milestone.
Alabama will open the 2011-12 season on Saturday, November 12, when it hosts Nicholls State at Foster Auditorium. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m. CT.
