Alabama Head Coach Wendell Hudson
Opening statement:
"You have to give Auburn credit. They did a good job on defense taking us out of some of the things we wanted to do, but we also missed a lot of shots we make in practice. It's a tough game. We're still learning. I like the fact we took 71 shots, no question. I like shooting the basketball a lot, but when we have a shooting night like this, it is easy to see why the game went the way it did."
On Auburn's zone defense:
"We got looks and knew what they were going to play. We shot the ball exactly how we wanted and exactly how we did in practice, but you have to make the shots in the game."
On the slow start in the second half:
"We did not get off to a good start as they did. We got down 18 points, and managed to fight back to pull within six. We used up a lot of our energy during that stretch and just ran out of time."
#21 Tierney Jenkins, Forward
On how to help her teammates overcome offensive issues:
"I think a lot of it is just because they are young. I can remember when I was a freshman and didn't make shots. I thought it was the end of the game. Experience is the best thing for them. When we all talk about this game later I'm just going to tell them that they can't let this get them down. The freshmen made some big shots and some big plays when we were 18 points down, but it still wasn't our best effort."
On this being the first loss of the conference:
"We play next at Tennessee and LSU and those are both tough games, so we can't get our heads down if we want to come out and win those games. When we come back to practice we will talk about what we did wrong but we need to focus on Tennessee."
On Auburn's zone defense:
"We just got complacent and stood still and Coach (Hudson) kept telling us to move, but we were just standing in one spot. They could do what they wanted to. It wasn't the night for the three-pointer, but you have to find other ways to score when they are in the zone."
Auburn Head Coach Nell Fortner
Opening statement:
"I'm absolutely pleased with the win, especially in this tough conference, against an Alabama team that's had a really nice start to their season. I didn't know quite what to expect today since this is such a good rivalry. I'm pleased with how we played and hung on there in the second half and got the win."
On the team's zone defense:
"Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't work. When teams are knocking down threes it's a tough thing to play. Fortunately, we were getting out on the ball, and were able to move well within it and it worked today. It doesn't always work."
On if Alabama's perimeter shooting was result of the defense:
"You have to give some credit to the defense, but at times we've all seen teams get hot shooting from the perimeter. It can go either way."
On the team winning seven of its last nine outings:
"The start of our season was tough. We had a tough schedule, maybe overscheduled a bit for a young team. The one thing we've kept talking about is always learning the lesson from the loss and getting better from it. Hopefully that's what's happening to us right now. We've learned a lot from the losses and figured out who we are and what we need to do to be the best team we can be. We're not there yet, but the tough schedule has helped us mature a little quicker."
