
Kayla Hoffman Named SEC Gymnast of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Alabama senior Kayla Hoffman was named the Southeastern Conference Gymnast of the Week the league office announced today. Hoffman led the Crimson Tide to a season-opening win over Penn State last Friday, posting a 39.5 in the all-around which ties her career high.
"I'm very proud of Kayla's performance on Friday," UA head coach Sarah Patterson said. "She has become very consistent over the course of her career and was instrumental in getting this very young team off to a great start this season."
Hoffman is ranked second nationally in the all-around and is third on the balance beam, fourth on the vault, fifth on the floor exercise and 23rd on the uneven bars. Against Penn State, the Union, N.J., native won vault and floor exercise with matching 9.9s and took second on both the uneven bars and balance beam. She tied her career high on the balance beam, scoring a 9.875.
After opening at home last weekend, Hoffman and her Crimson Tide teammates take to the road to open SEC competition against the Arkansas Razorbacks Friday, Jan. 14 at 7 p.m.
